From: "Donald R. Reid" <dreid9_at_earthlink.net> >>>>>>Has anyone on the list heard of a strip built kayak plan from a 'Wolf Designs'? 16'2" long single .... I am thinking about buying one that was built maybe five years ago.<<<<<<<< I checked my Wooden Kayaks database and discovered that either I haven't heard of it either or that's not quite the name of the company. All the wood kayaks with a wolf in their name also seemed to be plywood rather than wood-strip kayaks so I can't even make an educated guess what it might be. If you find out more let me know and I'll either add it to my database (of if the name is different I'll give you what ever information I have on it). Where is the plans company supposed to be located? The founder of the Washington Kayak Club, Wolf Bauer, designed some kayaks in the 1960's that were built in fiberglass by Linc Hales and others. They were probably built using wood-strips initially. I haven't heard of anyone having or selling plans for them. If you are anywhere near the Seattle area beware of buying a wood-strip kayak that was stolen very recently. It is 16-7 long and 28" wide. It has the strips in a chevron pattern on the V'ed deck, two lighter colored wood-strips as the 3rd and 5th strip below the seam/gunnels. And a black decal imbedded under the fiberglass on the hull near the bow that says "Huntercraft". If anyone sees this unique kayak with its unique name try to get a car license number or identifying information on the "owner" and call the Seattle Police (911) and me (206)284-8404. The police case number is 02-519766. This should be an especially easy kayak to remember and spot because it is unique. It offers a good opportunity to identify an catch a kayak thief in the early stages of his "career". There is also a $100 reward for information leading to the return of the boat to its owner.
