> My father has some property and a trailer near Mulege. He's been trying to > get me to come down and spend some vacation time there. The more I've been > reading about it the better it sounds. > We did a trip from Mulege to St Nicholas. Our trip was supposed to end Loretto but El Norte winds really picked up and we didn't have enough days to finish the trip so we bailed out at St Nicholas. This is a great stretch didn't see anyone except a few fisherman. The big issue is water, but you can get water about half way in St Nicholas. There is a friendly local, Chico, who has a good well. I can send you some directions to get to his place. He provides the water for the NOLs groups that pass through, just be prepared to spend a couple hours touring his gorgeous garden. He loves to give out grapefruits, yummy sweet. He only speaks Spanish, is a local school teacher, and he is a great help to yakers. The camping can be a bit weird around Lorreto, the outfitters have all the best camps and I think there is some sort of permit system that favors outfitters. You don't have to contend with outfitters from Mulege to just north of Loretto. We actually left from Eco Mundo an ecologically designed "resort" for sea kayakers, actually a nice place. We went in January and it was quite windy we tried to be in camp by noon, but we are not a seasoned group for rough water. By noon the wind was blowing about 30 mph and the waves were about 4-5 feet. We tried to get on the water before dawn to catch the calm water. If you need anymore information let me know I have the waypoints for our camps. -- MZ *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
