They have specially-modified boats which easily raft together, and a custom made sail rigged on a carbon shaft. I didn't get a look at the sail before they left, can't tell you the size, will try to remember to ask. They were under a lot of time pressure to launch on the day they planned. As for the sat phone, it's donated by Shell Pipeline Co and Stratos Communications, thankfully! Their boats are really stuffed and really much heavier than they planned. They sounded a lot better today than they did Tuesday. Their website is getting thousands of hits. Someone told me the TV video even ran in Brazil!
