Nice trip report, Mike. I am also a sometime moonlight paddler, though the
prospect of significant tide rips scares the bejesus out of me. My home
paddling waters are much tamer than Rosario Strait. Our main fear is that
we will get run over by an errant gillnetter out hotrodding. Down here, the
shipping channel is so well-defined and narrow that freighters and tugs are
a non-problem.

Please keep us posted on your future adventures.

One small technical comment. Binoculars, even low-power ones, will often
resolve images such as a vessel running with lights so you can see the
red/green lights. These also help scan for distant buoys/markers.

I agree dosing out what lights to see ahead of time is critical. In some
ways, I have found it easier to navigate at night, because the markers stand
out better than in the daytime.
