Can anyone recommend a rugged and reliable portable shortwave radio and
appropriate frequencies for picking up marine weather forecasts in
Australia? Coast guard reports are not always available on the VHF radio and
my mobile phone is sometimes a bit unreliable when out of town.

All the best, PeterO

All the best, PeterO...

I use a Grundig Yach Boy 400 Worlband Radio (Page 151, Master Catalog 2003
West Marine).

Used it extensively while blue water sailing in the Atlantic, Should work
worlwide. Batery longevity is good (6AA batteries). Te reciever is reliable
and has been on the market for a while mine, has 6 yrs.

Weight and size for kayaking is OK. Ruggedness has it's limits. Price is OK
