Hi all, here's an update on the guys circumnavigating the Gulf of Mexico: I am thrilled at how well they're doing. They launched into rough seas Sunday, and Dr Larry Koenig, who was in a bad automobile accident 2 years ago, was having some trouble. However, he is doing great now, they are catching up and are almost on schedule. This afternoon (Thursday) they called into Louisiana Governor Mike Foster's live, statewide radio show, using the satellite phone provided by Shell Pipeline Company and Stratos Communications. They had a sail rigged, and Larry talked as Arthur steered the boat. The governor is personally interested in their journey because he is a fisherman, conservationist, and lover of the outdoors and has a home and fishing camps on the coast. Larry and Arthur are taking the opportunity to promote awareness of environmental issues, especially coastal erosion. They were on the air today with the governor for about 5 minutes. I am Gov Foster's press secretary and produce his radio show. I just wanted to share the excitement. It's a nice distraction from world events. Handsets (AFAIK) are from $700. My question is about sail; I know and use some, but what design they are using, and how big is sail area if they (probably) don't use outrigger?
