Looking at the pictures of Swellies on the MEC website vs Chotas, they look quite similar (except for the price). Can anyone compare these, in terms of quality, fit, comfort etc. Are the Chotas worth the 3x higher cost? Also, I noticed that there are three versions of the Chotas: the "regular" ones with a 3mm sole (seems thin if you're going to be walking on rocky, barnacle-covered stuff) for US$75; the "nunavut", which apparently has a regular sole and heel (perhaps making it better for canoeing?) for US$93; or the quicklace model with a 7mm sole for US$93. Which one is more appropriate for kayak touring? *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). Can anyone compare these, in terms > of quality, fit, comfort etc. Are the Chotas worth the 3x higher cost? The Swellies are only comperable to the lowest quality Chotas. The fancier versions of the Chotas are better constructed and have nicer features. The Swellies are basic reef boots with a high top and neoprene cuff at the top. They are about 5mm, though, not 3mm as you say the Chotas are. Around here, the basic Chotas, imported from the US, can't compare in price to the MEC product. The Swellies are a bargain (when I bought them they were even cheaper) and good value. They are not high end. Folks who want the bells and whistles buy the Chotas.
