First of all, where is Lancaster Sound? Second, since you have time, you
might also start by keeping up with our guys who are paddling around the
edge of the Gulf of Mexico. We talk about them here frequently, but here's
the link: www.lacostadelgolfo.com  After they finish, I would be happy to
give you phone numbers, etc, so you can get their advice on planning a major
expedition.
Third, if you can come up with some kind of environmental issue and/or
historical angle to your venture, you have a lot better chance of getting
commercial help. That's what Larry and Arthur did. It cut their expenses
substantially, and led to their alliance with my office in Louisiana state
government.
Lucky you, being in Scotland! I was in England for 2 weeks last June and got
as far north as the Lake District. Made it most of the way up Scafell Pike
until the horizontal sleet made it no longer fun. Good luck!   Marsanne
