Ralph wrote: Matt, what boat model do you use in this way? Do you play with white water boats in surf? I originally used old 13'2" WW boats in the surf but they wouldn't work with this technique. New shorter and highly rockered WW boats and several kinds of specialized surf kayaks can do this well and even do 360's on the face of a wave. Most of my experience at this is in our Coaster and Express models. They are quite good at this. Robert Livingston's shorter designs are very good at this as well (his Ursa Micro was the inspiration for our Coaster). Although I have never used them I suspect the NWK Sportee (a Coaster imitation) and, I suspect, the Wilderness Systems Shaman might do this well. There are probably several others I've missed but I'm rushed to get this e-mail done to go visit my mother before she goes to bed so I don't have time to search my kayak database and jog my memory on other models that might do this especially well. Anyone else have some experience with different models? Shorter kayaks with lots of bow buoyancy or a bow that planes up tend to do better than long narrow bow kayaks.
