I'm replacing the cord on my tow line and I want to reduce the bulk. Currently I'm using about ten metres of eight millimetre nylon cord, and I'm curios as to what other folk are using. I considered Spectra cord, buy it seems stiff and I think it would tangle easily. Any thoughts? Spectra is used a lot by ultra light backpackers. I have only used it sparingly, but others say it is substantially abrasive. When I talked about using it as a throw rope to hang food away from bears, some people said it abrades trees. I would think that if that were true, it might also abrade gelcoat, although I have never tested this theory. It is very light, though.
