Yes Tim, we all enjoyed your series of articles in the Times-Colonist last
year. Your reportage was invigorating to read, admirably written, and
thoroughly engaging for both kayaker and none-kayaker alike. Your
description of you and your partner's paddling experiences down the Inside
Passage, then down the outside of Vancouver Island was a testament to your
obvious love of the outdoors, logistical skills, understanding the sea, and
all things life-affirming -- not to mention your obvious joy with the sport
of sea kayaking.

Those of us who take notice of journalistic staffing issues back east look
forward to your contributions in the world of Canadian kayaking
publications. The latest issue of Adventure Kayak Magazine (summer 2003) was
informative, entertaining, and in one kayaker's opinion (mine) suggestive of
this newer magazines coming of age. I particularly enjoyed John Dowds
perspective on the guiding industry this time around. Alex Mathews dry wit
is always fun, and he is always informative to read - even when one
disagrees with him or he's a bit over the top. And "Dowdsy" is eminently
more readable, respectable and meaningful when moderated by good conscience
and crisp self-editing (as we all are!). He is the master, master of kayak
seamanship and penmanship.

Good luck in all your pursuits, wherever they may take you. Don't burn out
man. And the warm, sometimes wet (okay, often wet) mellow westcoast is
always here when you want to come back or get tired of all the snow! :-)
