Shawn Me thought a skeg also referred to any extension of a keel line abaft of a small vessel. Duane's is fairly small - a few inches. Most Nordkapp owners have big long ones. I actually don't have one. If I did, I'd cut it off or modify it down so I could more easily turn up into the wind. As it is, I have to get my Nordkapp HS up to speed (none-rudder deployed), then throw in a sweep before initiating a bow rudder or whatever to facilitate final turning action -- while leaning to increase the rocker. The Nordkapp HM does look cool, however. Duane's skeg-thingy looks like a nice compromise, though size doesn't matter: it's how you use it and what one's intentions are. Duane appears to have realized his goals and understands his particular fixed mini-skeg extension with certain predictability in terms of use. What I don't understand is the excellent stamina he attained with the ingestion of Spaghetti-O's. I tried to eat every hour, but I did have a 4 hour period during the night when I couldn't eat because I had no appetite. I think my stomach was trying to catch up. When I was done, my cockpit looked like a trash dumpster. By the way, I am from the carb camp.
