I am definitely going to replace those foam things that WS. calls bulkheads-
I am thinking fiberglass. I have to admit to being a pretty big fan of
"retractibility"- if it is too big a job for me- I will have it done.
I appreciate the comments.

You should really go back a ways and see what Strosacker did to the Arctic
Hawk.  I did the same thing more or less at the same time and I don't think
you need to burden yourself with a retractable skeg. A simple 3 foot
tapering
fixed skeg (hull extension) is a. easier to fabricate and b. all you need. 

As far as a foot pump is concerned, do you intend to replace that "foam,
rubber, or whatever" bulkhead Wilderness uses with ????
