Emile, I feel as if tying down the bow and stern to the car body/frame takes a load off of the roof rack when you encounter wind gusts. If you tie the boat(s) down to the rack, there is a chance the whole rack could break away from the car with the kayak(s) on it. I speak from expierience ...., a very costly one!
