Biz trip upstate will leave me Memorial weekend to explore.
Please recommend nice big lakes with kayak outfitters.

I would rather roam randomly, but figure I need to reserve
accommodations, given the holiday. Please recommend rustic
places. Maybe on the aforementioned lakes.

Give a call to St Regis Outfitters. Dave has run a canoe base on Floodwood Pond 
for many years and is also a sea kayak instructor and guide.
