You may recall the thread a few months back about insurance for kayaks. I did some research as a follow-up to the discussions, and found it nearly impossible to find a company that would insure kayaks. My own home insurance company, Peerless, had stopped providing riders for stolen kayaks last year. I should mention that my agent provides policies from several companies. She did some investigation and came up with a company that would cover my three boats for $300 per year! She found out that most companies were reluctant to even consider covering stolen kayaks, as the incidence of stolen boats has risen so dramatically over the last three years. Not only that, but the coverage she found would not be for replacement, but for a pro-rated/depreciated value of the boat. Hmmm. I called State Farm, our vehicle insurance agent, and I tried to get them to match coverage of the Peerless home owners policy... that is, with the boats covered for theft. Never got a return call... which surprised me, because I thought we had a pretty good relationship with them. Then things got busy, and I lost momentum in the investigation. Such is life. Bottom line, would anybody care to give particulars on their policies... major carrier? costs? experiences? Tom (who loves his GS, but appreciates boats that seem to "effortlessly" achieve cruising speeds of 7, 8 or 9 mph) :) :) *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
