Happy with my Skerray (had it for 6 years) from Valley Canoe Products in the
UK and has a Skeg and no rudder.I have noted it (and other VCP boats) are
imported into the USA and advertised in Sea Kayaker.

In Australia UK designed boats have traditionally been favoured with smaller
cockpits and narrower waists. In the early 80's we had Nordkapps here and
suggest that it has set the tone.Skerray is a good "week long" boat and is
also made in fibreglass.Mine is plastic.Similar designs worth a look would
be the Advocet and models from the UK company P & H.Skerray design would be
at least 10 + years old.

Characteristics I like include the sporty nature (lots of rocker) of it's
performance in rough water and surf zone. Lack of a rudder should not be
seen as a total advantage and have noticed when I am tired it would be nice
just to paddle and not worry about direction strokes and hull
steering.Sailing is not as easy with a skeg either.

Just some thoughts.
