[Paddlewise] Adjusting a wire skeg

I just purchased a used Avocet RM with wire skeg (built in '01).  The 
wire 'seems' fine (no visible bends), but the skeg doesn't stay fully 
retracted.  While the skeg does fully retract when I push the skeg 
slider forward, it slips out about 1-2 cm once I release the slider 
(the slider also moves back).  Is there a way to 'tighten up' the 
skeg slider so it doesn't slide back on its own or is there some 
other way to fix this problem?
