It seems the leaching thing is false but....in lab tests with re-used water bottles....some studies report that 50% of the tested bottles contained water that was non-potable....containing high levels of nasty bacteria. Apparently the narrow necked bottles are very hard to really get clean. Another reason wide-mouthed bottles are better IMHO but I also reuse things like Gatorade bottles especially with the grooves in them - deck bungies like grooves!
