The original scares surrounding the use and reuse of this type of plastic is
that it could be an endocrine disrupter that might interact with the
endocrine system in ways that resemble natural estrogen, the primary female
sex hormone. The articles I read were most concerned with the leaching of
these potential endocrine disruptors when the plastic is used in a microwave
oven to reheat foods.
