I am off to Baja on Tuesday 11/11 -11/29. We will be doing the Mulege to
Loretto trip and hopefully will not get winded out. We have a few layover
days for that purpose.

A couple suggestion Ecomundo just south of Baja Concepcion is a good place
to stash your vehicle they took good care of it while we were gone and Roy
is an American. They have an ecological resort just follow 101 south. In St
Nicholas there is a great guy named Chico who has a well, he likes yakers
and will fill you up with water. I don't think he charged us a peso for the
water and he gave us grapefruits from his tree. NOLS uses him for their
water stop and they helped him with a fire so he is very helpful to yakers.
St Nicholas is a good midway stop point. We got winded out last time and
hitched a ride out of there to pick up our cars. We get someone to pick us
up and bring us back to our cars. People are always looking for extra cash
so you can do it in Loretto or ask Ecomundo for some recommendations. We
keep the cars at Ecomundo. Here are some photos with a picture of Chicos
place so you recognize it. It is very small community and everyone knows
him. He is a retied school teacher and has some fascinating photos of the
Mexican revolution. Just be prepared to spend about 1 hour, and bring
something to carry all your water jugs because it is a bit of a walk.

Checking out your pictures, it looks somewhat cool when you went.

Or were you just covering up from the sun?

We went in January so it was a bit cool especially early morning, when it
was about 50 degrees F. In St Nicholas we also had a strong N wind which
kept us very cool until mid day. Daytime temps were in the mid 70s to low
80s except when the N wind was fierce then it was in the upper 60s. We were
always on the water before dawn and finished mid day depending on the wind.
El Norte can raise a big chop, we had one day where folks 25 feet away
completely disappeared in the wave trough. Rounding Pulpito can be a
challenge because you have beam winds and waves until you round the point,
and it is the furthest point east in the sea of Cortez. This point also has
a very long fetch of water above it so the waves can be pounding. Make sure
you have calm weather before you try Pulpito, don't take chances unless you
are a storm chaser then it might be fun. Outward Bound lost several members
of a group near Pulpito. -- MZ
