Marine Tex is an epoxy mixed with talcum powder or other filler and does not
provide good abrasion resistance. I used it to replace gel coat on a boat
that was being replaced (for other reasons than gel coat). I made part of
the repair with gel coat and the other part with Marine Tex. After 3 times
in the water the Marine Tex had worn off the keel while the gel coat was
still there. MarineTex is good for emergency repairs or repairs where the
abrasion factor is low.
Just for grins look through the hatch at a Marine Tex repaired area and the
light shines through almost like plastic.
