Tom, The Canoe and Kayak Handbook from the BCU does have some good information in it, including some info you need to know for star training, but it tends to cover a lot of things in general. I know that Derek Hutchinson takes a lot of heat on this list, but I still think his Complete Book of Sea Kayaking is one of the best books out there. It is approved by the BCU, and not surprisingly, a lot of star sea training stuff is covered in the book. If you want to see the specific info for each star assessment, albeit rather vague, go to http://www.bcuna.com/Pages/Main-Pages/Literature.shtml.
