Good radio. Very submersible. Just give it some protection in surf (as in no
direct pressure). West Marine has a nice non-waterproof case for basic
protection that is not cumbersome and remains pliable in a pocket, etc.

As far as not being cheap, what's your life worth man! And, how can you say
you are part of the water-travelling community if you can't stay in touch?
As for weather reports, ditto the previous. Do yourself a favour, order one
and adjust your spending plan on other budgetary items.

Doug,

Down here in Southern CA, West has stopped selling the drybags for
radios. Many of my friends and I experienced a lot of failures and never
got one to last for more than 6 months.

Last year we found another source of bags, www.drypakcase.com and so far
they seem to be holding up well. The only disadvantage is that they
don't have the finger thingy to make turning the on/off knob easier, but
that is the only disadvantage.

If anybody finds anything any better, please let us know.I want my VHF
to work when I need it.
