A bit off topic.... Camping related, but not paddling directly.

"Hey", P'Wisers. I need some help, please. I have a close female
friend who is single, mid 30's, a definite "city girl", doesn't like
bugs, being dirty, etc, and in a week she and her parents will be taking
her 6 year old daughter on their first camping trip ever (car camping on
Hatteras Island, NC)

Anyway, she asked to borrow some gear, so I thought that I'd slip into
the pile a "good luck" type of card, but I wanted to include some
handwritten or internet printed "tips". That's where I need the help.
I'm looking for some humor, like "Top 10 things not to do on a camping
trip", or "Why wild animals find campers tastey", or whatever. It just
needs to be some stuff to make her laugh, because so far, she's not a
happy camper (pun intended). Can you help? Anybody got anything, or
know where some stuff is on the net?

Thanks,

Rick

There is a book called "A Walk in the Woods" by Bill Bryson which is my
favorite camping humor book, by far, discussing city folk hitting the woods.

A Walk in the Woods reminds me of Patrick McManus. Lots of humorous short
stories to choose from - possibly more appropriate for someone with some
'in the woods' experience I suppose...you had to have owned a few boats to
really find the humor in the story about trying to get trailer lights working!

I once went winter camping with a group to Hart-Miller island in the winter.
Hart-Miller is located in the Chesapeake Bay near Baltimore MD. After we had
all shed our dry suits and finished up dinner we were kicking back just
enjoying the early evening. As it turned dark I made the comment at how
little light pollution there was this close to Baltimore. It wasn't just a
small comment - I wouldn't let it go as I was just so amazed. Everyone kept
looking at me strange, so I assumed they just didn't care about what I was
talking about.

At some point I tilted my head down while glancing up, and noticed why
everyone was so puzzled at my comments - I was still wearing my
sunglasses...
