Does anyone know if there have been problems with vandalism in this area?
Are there alternatives nearby? We have been at other places where it has
been possible to pay someone to watch your car (ie park it on their land:
(for example at San Joseph Bay). If there anyplace around there where
someone will watch your car?<

I normally access Brooks Bay from Side Bay (north of Red Stripe Mtn.), where
the Keith River discharges. Vandalism is a concern, but most of these remote
coast logging roads yield less traffic, so it's a trade off. South of red
Stripe Mtn is Klaskino Inlet near Yaky Kop Cone. A logging road runs the
perimeter of this inlet. This is probably the launching area you refer to.
The is a boat launch there, with recreational types access the water here. I
doubt most fishers would disturb vehicles. Roaming criminals are rare, but
they do infrequently cause problems. There may be other cars there, roof
racks tucked in the back seats. This is a common way for paddlers to get to
the north Brooks area. I don't believe you can get a close as you wish with
the availability of a "car watcher." Winter Harbour, much further north, is
fine for leaving vehicles, but a much longer paddle down (though well worth
the effort for those with more time that wold rather be paddling than
sitting on North Brooks drinking wine and reading all day).

Some logging, I believe, is taking place in Klaskish Inlet, which is right
at the peninsula. I don't now how close any roads would be, and doubt there
is anything fully coastal yet, but I might be out of date (but sure hope
not). I prefer to see Brooks Peninsula remain somewhat inaccessible by
vehicle.

I usually access south Brooks via north Brooks, as the paddle around is
truly worthwhile paddling for experienced paddlers. South Brooks (Checleset
Bay) can get very warm and is relatively calm in the summer. Winter is a
little different. See what's left of the weather bouy:

Landing are a bit difficult along the exposed section of South Brooks until
further down the peninsula. You an see here why:

But as far as Brooks Bay, most paddlers access via Klaskino Inlet, with the
majority facing few problems. Local RCMP may help you with updates.
