Having just returned from a trip to Alaska that included a 10-day solo
paddle of the West Arm of Glacier Bay, I would like to thank list
members collectively for their general discussions, suggestions, etc.,
concerning sea kayaking. Over the years, all those threads have helped
many of us become more knowledgeable kayakers and have inspired trips
like this one. Bob Carter's narratives and his specific comments have
been invaluable. Jim Tibensky also gave me numerous pieces of
information. I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting at the moment but
who were kind enough to share their thoughts.

I am trying to digest the trip and organize my notes into something that
may be helpful to circulate. In the meantime, if anybody has questions
about current conditions or logistics, I would be happy to discuss them,
either on the list or on a backchannel. Not to rub it in, but my trip
coincided with the heat wave Alaska experienced: Until the very last
morning, when a few wisps of fog snaked along the lower hills, the skies
were cloudless all day long. Morning and mid-day water was typically
satiny with only occasional afternoon catabatic winds and little chop.
And the wildlife . . . .

Tom
