>You really lucked out on the weather, we have had some of the hottest
weather I have ever seen up here. Were you here for the June 29th
earthquake? Had a whole lot of shaking going on! 6.7 really shook us for
about 20 seconds. Look forward to your trip report. Glad you had a great and
safe time.<

Just back from over a week in Nootka Sound with a Paddlewise member and four
of his friends from the Washington Kayak Club. Rained two days, then slipped
into a record heat wave with some of the calmest seas I've ever experienced
on the west coast -- with all the gale-force afternoon winds out 40 miles
offshore. Truly remarkable (if a bit boring for me). And oh yeah, we had a
6.2 earthquake centered right in the sound at 1:00am one night on Bligh
Island. Everyone woke up to shaking ground and tents; at first, they though
it was a massive eruption from my constant daily intake of beans and rice (a
reputation I shall never live down!). However, there was no mistaking the
rumbles of mother nature. The previous week there had been a 5.2 just off
the Sound. No tsunamis though...unfortunately. And no more beans for this
cowboy.
