I just talked to someone that ran into a person that apparently had fallen
on hard financial times and had decided to sell their boats (a sad state of
affairs to be sure!!). Anyway, this guy paid $1000 for TWO fiberglass
boats - a VCP Argonaut and a Dagger Sitka PLUS two paddles (one was a
Werner), spray skirt, car top equip, etc etc. I haven't actually seen the
boats myself (I'm pretty sure the VCP is the Argonaut, both boats are ~ 18'
long). At any rate, I'd feel guilty forever....but I still wish it would
have been me and not him!! :o)

BTW, I questioned the legitimacy of this sale - apparently the guy provided
dated receipts for both boats. I may still grab serial numbers off the
boats when I see them - just to be sure. Southern Wisconsin isn't exactly
a hotbed of the black market boat trade though!

Still watching for another financially strapped paddler to take advant...I
mean "help"...oh yeah, I guess most paddlers are financially strapped...

Here in BC no kayak depreciates below 50-60% of its value, as I've found.
Very sad. So, old fiberglass costs at least 1100-1200 (USD), sometimes with
a paddle, but when it's something like Werner, it will be either offered as
an option, or the total price will be more than 1200.
