Anyone got an opinion, good, bad, ugly or otherwise on this 'waterproof'
digital camera?

Thanks in advance.

Michael

Michael, pick up the latest issue of Canoe and Kayak, August 2004. (no
affiliation)
There is an interesting article on cameras, including the Pentax Optio 33WR
and yes, I know you stated 43WR but there maybe some similarities. The 33WR
is not waterproof according to the article and both 33WR and 43WR have a JIS
Class7 waterproof rating. (can be splashed and rinsed but not to be
operated under water)
Food for thought!

I'd be tempted to look seriously at the Olympus digital cameras. Several
models that are not horribly expensive and Olympus sells custom hardshell
waterproof housings for them - for about $200. Not sure of the
submersibility ratings - but I think they are rated for use down to 30 or
50 feet for diving and snorkeling. The cameras are quality units - well
made and excellent features/performance.

FWIW,
K

The cases are rated to 150 feet and I have the 5060 with case and works
great for diving and SCUBA.

Sorry for the late reply but I just got back from a 2 week trip coastal trip
where I used the 3.2 megapixel (Optio 33wr) version extensively. I carried
it unprotected in my pfd pocket where it got submerged/soaked several times.
The only care I gave it was rinsing it off in fresh water when I had the
chance. It still works fine. My only complaint would be a desire for
greater zoom capability - those wolfs look so small:)

Rob.
