In plan and profile, it is unmistakably similar to the Romany. In volume and section, it is more similar to the Pintail. There was an older Derek Hutchinson design that predated the Romany...that the Romany looks suspiciously like...P&H Icefloe? I can't remember the specific model. Looked just like a Romany, but with less rocker. Well, yeah! >Shawn, how different is the Kornielsen kayak and the Anas Acuta? How far removed from the source does one go before it really becomes a distant cousin. I'd definitely say they're first cousins, if not siblings. The two are sized more alike than the two 1959 Illorsuit kayaks--John Heath's and Ken Taylor's. I had my folder (based on the 1959 Ken Taylor kayak) at Delmarva--here's a photo of it next to an Anas Acuta: http://www.qajaqusa.org/gallery/delmarva15_2003/d03dm008 The Anas has higher decks, and is a foot longer. IMNSHO, the Pintail and everything after it are starting to move away from the original SOF, but the Anas Acuta is very, very similar. (not that that means there's anything wrong with the Pintail...only that it's another generation away from the original). It's a nice design; not my favorite, but definitely not one I dislike! You can't help but like it for its long storied history! Shawn Tired of spam? Yahoo!
