Thank you for all your responses!

I'd like to summarize my findings on the subject of shrimping while kayaking on
the Pacific North-West:

1. One the Pacific coast of Canada, the shrimps are not present. Instead, we
have prawns, which are deeper water creatures (80-200 ft).

2. The recreational prawn harvesting is open all year round:

3. Locals are actually catching the prawns all year round.

4. BC Tidal Waters Sport Fishing License is required for prawn harvesting. This
is the same license as for the sport fishing. It is available for $22.47 and
$108.07 for BC residents and non-residents respectively:

5. A local BC company makes folding stainless prawn traps that are 12"x12" when
folded flat. They sell them via the distributors, not directly. The price is
around CDN $50. E-mail me for the link for it is against the list policy to
post it here.

I am definitely going to give it a try. I'll post the results when I am back
from my trip in September.

Cheers,

Victor.
