The paddle you like most works best.

To my knowledge no one has ever defined the characteristics of a Greenland
paddle or a Euro paddle nor have the defined when one becomes the other.
Hopefully some one who has will enlighten me.

As for the superiority of one over the other we have only anecdotal
evidience (with the exception of wind tunnel and tank tests that suggest the
lower aspect ratio "Euro" style produces more thrust per unit area). I
believe you can safely ignore various formulas for steady state flow effects
since paddles do not work that way.

Unfortunately most "Euro" style paddles have so much more area than high
aspect ratio paddles that it becomes difficult to compare them in real life
paddling situations. After years of testing paddles I ended up with a short
Euro style paddle with no twist and a relatively small blade.

Should everyone use it? No way. Is it better? For me, yes. If you find you
like one or the other go forth and paddle with it. Some may sneer at your
choice but ignore them. They probably have other problems unrelated to
paddling.

Cheers

Best answer to all things related to paddling that I have ever heard!!
Thanks John. Is this something you learned from the Professor and have you
been able to talk with him at all lately? I sure miss his wisdom.
