Hi Tina,
My friend had previously brought to my attention this kayak rental
service provider called Paddleasia at http://paddleasia.com/rentals.htm,
which I think is really suitable for us paddlers who are interested in doing
serious touring in real seak kayaks instead of just a short hour or two
paddle around in a sit-on-top.

I only took a SOT out at sea for two hours just off Krabi-Phra Nang
area when I was there for a climbing trip last December - the numerous sea
caves are really worth exploring, and the nice emerald green waters will
tempt you to abandon your kayak and jump in for a snorkel...good to bring
your snorkelling gear along!

Look out for the right season for paddling though, the tempestuous
monsoon weather is a real danger, and it comes at different times for the
east coast and the west coast of southeast Asia; definitely important to do
some preliminary research.
