Doug Alderson made the kayak in his North Saanich workshop, here on Vancouver Island. It's made from door-skin plywood, sized to his own dimensional requirements, with an epoxy/cloth covering and marine enamel paints. Doug did some time in his pre-professional vocational days as a boat builder, before he went on to become a shop teacher (woodworking, etc.). It was about his third design. It shares some similarities with Duane's latest plywood design, the Point Bennett (from what I can tell). Doug and I have spent way too many miles on the west coast discussing the minutia of deck rigging design options, which I believe came to full expression in his SK article. Doug is an exceptional paddler/waterman/coach/writer and do-it-yourselfer.
