Never paddled there, but that island is famous for being the bail out 
point for an early "broken arrow" - A B-36 carrying a nuclear warhead 
that lost its engine power and eventually crashed.  12 of the 17 crew 
parachuted there.  The plane crashed on the mainland with some of its 
crew possibly still on board.
