Dear friends, Please see the rack system I designed for my pickup truck. It can hold 4 kayaks. You can load them easily single handed from the back box. <http://community.webshots.com/user/cayucochief> http://community.webshots.com/user/cayucochief on new album If you like it please feel free to copy it. The system does not touch nor place any load on the roof. It is made with 4 inch tubes . It is bolted to the sides of the back box and has a 1/4 plate under the rail to distribute the bolts load. There are four bolts on each side. Two for the front bar and two for the diagonal bar. The central vertical spring loaded bars were from a Yakima rack system. You can lower them down when not in use. The horizontal front and back tubes are separated almost 4 feet (120 cms) and the front bar lies behind the windshield wind line, therefore there is almost no wind drag at full speed when unloaded. The kayak does not exceed the front or back truck ends, which is a requirement in the Mexican Traffic Laws. Best Regards, Rafael Mexico. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). I'm glad that's not a US law. I don't know that my car is longer than any of my boats. My surf ski overhangs the back of my VW wagon by about 5 feet - where the required red flag flutters merrily. -- Kirk Olsen *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). > Please see the rack system I designed for my pickup truck. It's been a while since I've used my mechanical engineering degree, but to me that looks like it could double as a roll cage. I think the roll cage in my friends race car is made of smaller tubes. Impressive! Mel 2 + 2 = 5 (For extremely large values of 2) *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
