Sea Kayakers, Senate Bill S.786, proposes that the National Weather Service discontinue many services that people depend on in their daily lives. The idea is to not compete with commercial providers of weather forecasting. There is a question about whether this bill would end the NWS from providing weather forecasts over the internet. An article about it is at: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/content/news/epaper/2005/04/21/m1a_wx_0421.html This legislation was introduced by Sen. Rick Santorum, a republican from Pennsylvania. As a sea kayaker who depends on the NWS for safety and doesn't want to rely on getting his forecasts from some overly sun tanned guy on the local news, I know which party gets all of my votes.
