I am traveling to Austin Texas to arrive there this coming Thurday afternoon to attend a wedding on Sat March 9th. Any suggestions on where to rent a good touring kayak...and where to paddle it...for an interesting or scenic day trip? If anyone wants to step in and loan the equipment and go with me for good company I would be happy to spring for a nice dinner.... Used to white water years ago...but now I am too busy to do shuttles, so often go paddling with one or no other persons at home...on the Columbia River mainly, since it is only a few minutes from my home. I will have a car, but no rack on it...a rental. I would be happy to reciprocate with anyone in my own hometown, which is right across the river from Portland, Oregon. I usually paddle a Pygmy Coho... (I also will have three kids with me on this trip, and if I end up renting might take my 14 year old out for a couple of hours. If I borrow, he will be with cousins instead at the house...I am happy to rent, but if so want to use a good boat...ie maybe try a Tempest out. REI will rent a kayak of some sort and there is another place on hwy 35 that escapes me for now. I am more into fast water and there are any number of rivers west of Austin that will have class I & II rapids as well as good fly fishing. I am in Houston but have friends in Austin (also more fly fishermen than anything else) any specific questions. I will ask them about the kayak rentals. Regards, S.B. There is also Austin Canoe and Kayak, http://www.austinkayak.com/. If you're into fishing, you might check them out. -- Tommy McGuire *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
