I am a co-owner of a management search company, a kayaker for ten years and a reader of this group for four years. I recently presented a candidate on a global Chief Marketing Officer job that I am working on. The person was partially rejected because they had spent a few not-too-distant years in the canoe/kayak industry. The bias was that the industry group is "small potatoes". My first reaction was to respond emotionally. The second was to shut up get some hard facts. Do any of you folks out there have figures as to the magnitude of this business, or an association that would have numbers. Too late to save this candidate, but I would like to satisfy my own curiosity.
