There is a good set of paddle trail maps for the Carteret County area that is available for free by calling (252) 726-8148 or by e-mailing a request to vacation_at_sunnync.com. The maps were produced by the Crystal Coast Canoe and Kayak Club and include many routes in protected waters behind the barrier islands. I'm sure that you could stitch several of these together to get a 60 mile trip. Camping is available on Bear Island (Hammock Beach State Park) and all along Shackleford Bank and the Core Banks (barrier islands that make up the Cape Lookout National Seashore).
