Hi,

I haven't had time to read every single post here for the past few
months, so if this has already been discussed, please forgive me.

I just visited the Mariner Kayaks web site, and read about Matt and
Cam's upcoming retirement! Whether or not someone else will buy the
retail and/or production business seems still in the air, so this may
mean the end of an era. I hope Matt doesn't stop reading/posting
here, but I can certainly understand if he wants to go paddling
instead! :-)

I've never owned a Mariner boat, but I have paddled several over the
years, and they are fine boats indeed. I suppose if they really do
stop production permanently, the resale value of used Mariner boats
will rise, and their pricelessness for happy owners will become even
more meaningful.

Matt wouldn't remember me, but when I was in Seattle during my first
summer of paddling several years ago, I did visit the shop now and
then, and Matt even showed me how to make a simple paddle leash out of
a bungie and a nylon "clip". Instead of selling me some fancy and more
expensive contraption, he sold me only a few dollars worth of
materials and taught me how to be resourceful. Now *that* is caring
more about your customers than about your bottom line! :-)

I will be sad to see Mariner Kayaks go if no one picks up the
retail/production business, but I'm happy that Matt and Cam enjoyed
such a good run, and will soon able to enjoy their retirement!

Many thanks to Matt and Cam! :-)
