Hi All, Does anyone own or have any information on the above? This was the
kite used by Ed Gillett on his CA-HI epic, but apart from his reference on the
net and that of a kite photography enthusiast in the UK, I cannot find any
more information.
Is the Jalbert commercially available? Is it UK or US made etc.

	Thanks, Peter Rattenbury, Australia.

I believe I own one that I bought in the UK many years ago. It is a parafoil
stunt kite, 6 feet by maybe 3 feet with a fiberglass rod in the leading
edge. It uses two cords tied to either end of a broom handle sized pole. It
can be easily maneuvered to any angle up to 180 degrees and in a strong
wind, has an incredible pull.

Jalbert was the inventor of the parafoil, and probably not the manufacturer
of the kite.

I have a 15 square foot Jalbert Parafoil I got it sometime in the early
1980's. I also have a 7.5 square foot one I got several years earlier. They
have no frame members, the shape is maintained by the open fronted (closed
back) air tubes that stay inflated from the wind ramming into them (like a
parasail). It is a single line kite at least until the harness near the kite
of numerous lines that attach to the kite at triangular shaped fins that are
below each tube joint and the outer edges of the kite as well. I described
my frustrations with this kite several weeks ago on Paddlewise. The best
thing I can say about it for kayaking is that it packs up into a grapefruit
sized bundle and doesn't weigh much. At the East Coast L.L. Bean Symposium
in 1984, John Dowd had a 30 square foot one flying that looked like it could
lift a small child off the ground. As someone else said Jalbert was the
inventor not necessarily the manufacturer.

The Flexifoil has a carbon fiber tube that runs the length of the leading
edge with control strings attached to each end. The kite thinner that a
typical Jalbert, and the rod would make it easy to launch from a Kayak
(although I never tried it).
