Hmmm. A 100 pound plus Gulfstream. At least your boat would have some volume to justify the weight. My Nordkapp is a relatively small-volumed kayak compared to the average yak in my neck of the woods (it's low profile, narrow, with fine pointy ends, and makes an olive barrel look like an oil barrel), so my 100 pound weight would be, and is, a little more incredulous. In other words, it would be like a repaired, heavy Gulfstream of, say, a 125 pound variety. Anyway, I doubt anyone will top my boat's weight, regardless of volume, unless there's some old chopper-gun doubles still out there, with owners who haven't dislocated their shoulders. :-) BTW, a properly done fibreglass repair job, and an added fresh gelcoat done professionally, shouldn't add excessive weight. _My_kayak's weight owes much of its immoderate heaviness to the extra layers of epoxied cloth I added wholesale to the inside of the hull to stiffen up the old, limp girl longitudinally over the decades. Yeah, when my kayak falls over in the outer islands, it breaks the _trees_ in half. :-) Doug Lloyd Victoria BC ----- Original Message ----- From: Steve Holtzman Subject: Doug Lloyd, your Nordkap has a challenger While talking to some of my paddling buddies today, I mentioned that my trusty Gulfstream of '98 vintage was going to get a needed repair on the top deck where a small crack in the FG appeared and that while I was at it, since the gel coat on the hull was wearing away in several places; I was also going to have a new coat of gel put on both the hull and the deck. Since this boat is already heavier than a stock Gulfstream because of previous repairs that I had to have done, the comments this morning were that when my boat was finally finished, it would make Doug Lloyd's boat seem light.
