I'm interested in making a paddling shirt out of the material used in such clothing (kind of a heavy nylon with plastic on interior surface. Does anyone know of a source of such material as well as the tape used to close the seams. Penny Schwinn has a good web site for those who make outdoor gear and clothing. This is her sources page: http://www.specialtyoutdoors.com/tips/sources.asp Exactly which fabric to choose depends on what you want. I'd be tempted to suggest a Gore Tex or clone. Breathability is worth a lot more than some folks realize. It doesn't have to be very heavy if you're making a short sleeved shirt like the WW paddlers wear. The type of sealing tape will depend on the fabric you choose. Most of the suppliers that she lists will have something suitable. I've had good experiences with Textile Outfitters in Canada and with Outdoor Wilderness Fabrics in the US. Also - Malden Mills own factory store for Polartec fabrics - especially their clearout sales!
