After all the recent back-and-forth about group leadership, lawyers and liability I thought I would post a more prosaic question: what do folks do to treat the chafing, itching, skin sores, and the like that crop up from wearing a wetsuit for an extended period, inadvertently rubbing some skin against the seat back, etc., etc. Appreciate any practical suggestions, especially in extended trip scenarios. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). I get a rash behind my arms where my arms rub my sides whenever I paddle in salt water. Nothing I do seems to stop it but the cream clears it up quickly. What I found that works great is Desitin ointment. It's made for diaper rash, which is similar to what wetsuit rash is. Works great. Put it on BEFORE you paddle in the spots where you get the rash, and it will greatly diminish what you get , or prevent it altogether. Works good after you already have it, too. I try to prevent them by wearing a farmer john style wetsuit with a rash guard. I've never gotten a rash with the rash guard on, but always have without it. Since diaper rash ointments seem to be the favored treatment, I'll toss out Triple Paste as a possible cure (another zinc oxide product). Never used it for paddling rashes but my wife (a pediatrician) favors it for treating diaper rash: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0001Z996U/ref=pd_sxp_f/104-4372137-2846341?v=glance&s=hpc No connection to either Amazon or the company... To prevent chafing etc. I use Bodyglide anti-friction skin formula. http://www.bodyglide.com/ This was recommended by some friends who set up the cross-Florida adventure race.
