Does anyone know the name, or ben conatcted by a Giles Grace in regards to
purchasing your kayak???

I have recently ben contacted by this individual about buying one of the
kayaks I have listed and It had all the markings of a scam. In a rush to
send a check, no questions asked, and directions about contacting his
shiping agent for pickup, and then all comunications suddenly cease. Most
strange indeed.

Old scheme/scam. Different names, same method. The cheque will bounce
later. Sometimes they sned you a cheque on much higher amount, with
attached crap about their overly sophisticated and confused channels of cash
flow as an excuse, asking you to pay them the difference. and telling that
you may ship a kayak later 9they trust you that much). You, being honest,
pay from real account, of course (and then again have their bounced cheque
on hands).

Very old joke. Probably, older than "millions from Nigeria" (Zimbabwe,
Burundi, you name it) - I think, many of you received such an e-mail, -
about some millions that got stuck in Nigeria and they need your account
information to transfer those millions to you (and then to share it
generously with you). At some moment they ask about very little amount to
bribe local Nigerian authorities, like $150 or 250, - saying that this is
the very last obstacle between you and millions. Then all communications
suddenly ceaze :-) ...

Michael, et al - I'm sure that many, if not all persons who have ever listed
something on the 'net for sale have received similar fraudulent replies. In
general, the reply is from somewhere outside the country in which the item
for sale is located. Most times, the buyer offers to send a check of some
sort (certified, bank, cashier's or something of that ilk), but notes that
it will exceed the purchase price by a bit...anywhere from a couple of
hundred to a couple of thousand dollars. You're to send the buyer the
difference (usually via Western Union Transfer, or something like that), and
the "shipping agent" will contact you for the pickup. Once you've sent the
Western Union Transfer, then you will: 1)wait (in vain) for the "shipping
agent" to contact you, and 2) find (anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months later)
that the check you deposited was no good. You still have the boat, however.

Though I could use the money as I have some major unexpected vehicle
expenses (need a new engine) I am not in a rush to get ripped off. At this
point I don't care if it sells or not. I'll pay my debts of with honest work
over time. A principle these type of folks seem to be unfamiliar with. I am
quite familiar with the Nigerian millionaire dead relative scam. I ususaly
respond to them with a note about their contact info having been forwarded
to Interpol and wish them a happy life with a nasty room mate in crowbar
hotel.
I have only listed this kayak on the Paddlewise list serve, and the Qajaqusa
BB so I figure he must have come across my advert on one of the two. And if
he did, he likely came across others there as well. My point is to raise the
red flag for others seeing the name.

I just receive a note that someone else was contacted by this idividual as
well.
And it smelled just as fishy.
