Go to a store that has fishing supplies. You are looking for the brightly colored, reflective tape that is applied to fishing lures. You can cut letters out of this and apply to gear. I put my kayaks name on her (printed the font I wanted from the computer, then used that paper as a template to cut the letters). left over pieces would distinguish otherwise similar gear from your friends gear. I also use this reflective tape for safety purposes on my gear, esp. the paddle (my Kalliste is painted fluorescent yellow, with the reflective tape over that). I put stick on address labels on the paddle shaft and cover with clear packing tape, in case I lose the paddle.
