Well I finally decided to take a serious look at building a Greenland paddle
and stopped off at my local Home Depot. The only cedar they have is
tongue-and-groove for paneling a wall. I suppose I could laminate it.....

Anyway, this pretty much means I will have to drive to the Puget Sound area
to find appropriate blanks and as long as I'm doing that I suppose I might
as well take the kayak and go to Anacortes to the shop that sells lumber
there.

Which brings me to the next point: just where the hell is this shop anyway?
Anyone know? Trying to find it on the Internet leads me to all sorts of
bizarre (trust me) places.

Any decent lumber yard should have CVG cedar, albeit at a premium. Home
Depot is not a decent lumber source. There are four different independent
lumber outfits out here in this small population Oregon county, and they
all have CVG western red cedar. I suspect that is a regional preference,
though, Craig, because we use the stuff to restore old houses.

In Anacortes, I bet you want these guys: Flounder Bay Boat Lumber, 3rd & O
Sts, 98221 360/293 2369

I found the same challenge trying to find WR Cedar for my strip built
kayak. We have three big box stores that sell lumber (Home Depot,
Lowes, 84) and none of them carried cedar planks. I went to a local
lumber/hardware store and they had lot of it, in lengths up to
20'. I really didn't expect to find it here because we're so far east.
