[Paddlewise] Lake Powell

I'm contemplating a late Spring roadtrip down to paddle Lake Powell. I find 
several guided tours, but I would like to go solo. Anybody got any insider 
info, particularly camping (I assume sites are rare and crowded) and pretty 
places.
